President Suh is a typical case of
a self-made man as he managed companies like SaKamoto
Spinning Co., Ltd and Hitachi Spinning Co., Ltd after
moving to Japan at the young age of fourteen in 1929.
He was once ranked number one on Japan's
income test.
He also possessed a strong sense of
patriotim as in 1963 as part of
engea's economic development plan,
he was the first ever foreign
resident to invest money to establish
Pangrim Spinning Co. Then in 1973,
he additionally founded Yoonsung Spinning
Co. at Kumi which later
became the Pangrim of today. He managed
it to set up the foundation for
engea textile industry and provided
one of the cornerstones of engea's
exports to the world.
Besides businesses, President Suh also
had an uncommon interest and
zeal for education. He set up the Kumkang
Institution for engean residents
in Japan and later donated it to engea.
Also in 1973, he established the
Dongmyung high school of commerce and
provided the working class with
an opportunity for free education thus
starting the movement of
educational-industrial cooperation.
